There are many foods that cause disease and even cancer, but we consume them without being aware of the damage they can inflict. Take a look at this list and pay more attention in the future when choosing food for you and your family.
1. Microwave Popcorn
We all love popcorn, especially those in bag in the microwave because they are much easier for preparation. But recent studies at the University of California show that microwave popcorn isn’t safe because it contains PFOA acid which is very dangerous and can increase your risk of cancer.
This acid can increase the risk of certain cancers such as prostate and liver cancer, and it can be found in the Teflon also.
Most of the manufacturers are using soybean oil which is GMO, some preservatives like propyl gallate, that can cause skin rashes and stomach problems.
What to do?
Well, we can’t do much about our exposure to perfluorooctanoic acid if we use pop-in-bag microwave popcorn, but we won’t be exposed to the chemical if we choose to use free-kernel corn instead of cancerous microwave popcorn.
2. Red Meat
You love steak, don’t you? 10 years ago, a study show that if you eat red meat every day, regardless of the amount, even a quarter pound hamburger, there is possibility of increased risk of cancer by 22% for man and 20% increased risk for woman. Breast, colon and prostate cancer are the most common types of cancer caused by eating red meat every day.
What to do?
Try to replace red meat with fresh chicken and turkey, because this meats are good sources of protein and you can consume them in the diet.
3. Processed White Flours
After refining, processed white flour is losing almost all nutrients, but it is also bleached with chlorine gas, very dangerous chemical that in large quantities can be lethal. Morevoer, it contains high levels of glucose, which is bad for your blood sugar. Increased fat and chlorine gas may contribute to increased risk of cancer.What to do?
Try to eat traditional leaven made bread or multigrain bread such as Ezekial or sourdough bread.
