This is the car, it’s a 1939 Oldsmobile series 60 convertible and it’s believed to be the only one of it’s kind left and Mr. Thomas found it right here in Corpus Christi. He bought it from the original owner, a retired marine named ‘Yank’ Brown.
He says it took several visits before Brown would even let him see it.
The upholstery was shot and the interior was trashed, but Thomas knew he could win the Ridler award with this car.
The car sat another 9 years before Thomas had everything lined up to take his shot at the Ridler.
It would take two different custom shops and another six years before the car was ready to show at the Detroit Autorama this winter.
The Ridler award is the pinnacle of excellence in custom hot rod building.
It represents the absolute best in creativity ,innovation and craftsmanship and this 39 olds meets every one of those criteria. Under the hood, the original 6-cylinder was replaced with a 480 cubic inch V8 that develops 650 horse power and it’s a monster.
Virtually the entire car was redesigned and rebuilt to give it a sleeker look.
